A History of Granite City Baptist

1972
Granite City Baptist Church was officially organized at 313 28th St. North St. Cloud on Sunday afternoon, October 29. Pastor Oliver Sandahl (Lexington Baptist College and Institute) left as pastor at the First Baptist Church of Waterville, MN and moved to St. Cloud. The charter membership was signed by 28 people that day. Mr. Nick Johnson (Pillsbury Baptist Bible College) also spent much of the summer assisting Pastor Sandahl and preparing for the opening of the new church. Both men came as part of the Minnesota Baptist Association's Planting and Watering Missions. The initial action of the church was to vote in Pastor Sandahl as the first pastor. The vote was unanimous.

On Saturday, December 9, pastors and messengers from 12 sister churches met at Granite City Baptist Church to recognize it as a duly organized and constituted Baptist Church. Rev. Paige was moderator of the council and Rev. Seddon was named clerk. The twelve reviewed the church's constitution and incorporation papers to come to their decision. The vote was unanimous.
